City of Aurora Hispanic Heritage Advisory Board

Challenge grant not to exceed $20,000 payable at $1 for every $1

This Dunham Fund challenge grant will support the Hispanic Heritage Advisory Board’s celebration, “Fiesta Patrias” that commemorates Mexico’s independence from Spain in September 1810.

The 2-day celebration held at Aurora’s RiverEdge Park will feature a $5 admission fee to a concert with Grammy nominated artists “Sones de Mexico” on September 10, 2016 along with other Hispanic heritage activities free to the public on both days of the Fiesta. The fiesta is held to provide funding for Aurora area scholarships.

Wayside Cross Ministries

This grant was approved through the Dunham Foundation’s Ready for the Future RFP Grant and supports Wayside Cross Ministries’ Urban Youth Ministries (UYM) Program. The UYM program provides tutoring and mentoring support to Aurora-area students during the school year and summer programming. UYM will also engage other partners through this funding to broaden tutoring and programming offers for their students.

During the exhibit’s time in Aurora, there will be various film screenings, community conversations, and educational sessions that explore the exhibit and documentary’s themes and their relevance to our community today.
